iSing UK Schools Choral Workshops programmeiSing workshops focus on the importance of encouraging inclusive singing in schools, and on promoting the enjoyment of music and social interaction which result from such music-making. Founder and Artistic Director, Dominic Peckham is also keen to explore opportunities for extra curricular music-making and to prevent music education from becoming an elitist pursuit. From the beginning of every workshop Dominic has the participating children both focused and smiling (a feat seldom achieved!). The nature of his workshops is to encourage the singers, in an un-intimidating fashion, to listen to one another and learn to understand the many aspects of ensemble singing. Dominic is, however, insistent that he never loses sight of the basic aim of making the experience enjoyable for all. Dominic guarantees to leave the children with an infectious love for all music.

  • Singing Success - Otterbourne School, Hampshire

"Last week, 30 of our Key Stage 2 children took part in a vocal workshop held at Thornden, working with children from the other Thornden feeder schools. The children worked with Dominic Peckham, an expert vocal coach, and had an amazing day. Their efforts culminated in a performance at the end of the day, attended by family members. It was a wonderful experience for all those involved, including the accompanying adults and my thanks go to Thornden for the invitation to take part and Dominic Peckham for his energy, enthusiasm and obvious expertise."

  • An Enjoyable Day of Singing for the Year 1 Pupils - Reading Blue Coats School, Berkshire

"The first years had a highly enjoyable and very fun day of singing yesterday. The day was brought to them by Dominic Peckham and the iSing company.

Dominic is a graduate of The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and is The A.B.R.S.M Post Graduate Scholar 2006/07. He was a very enthusiastic man who made learning about techniques of singing positively enjoyable. The 1st years were included in many activities so none of them was bored and every eye was pinned to Dominic as he told them a great deal about singing. The workshop works in that he has a microphone and the 1st years are separated into groups with lots of music and singing. The Headmaster, Mr Michael Windsor, said that “It was a very entertaining and worthwhile opportunity for the 1st year student, it looked like a lot of fun for them."

  • A Singing Explosion - Cumbria Primary School Music

"Kendal Parish Church was a good place to be on Tuesday evening: that was the day in the 66th Mary Wakefield Festival of a iSing Workshop for local primary schools; all day, 300 children from Vicarage Park, Stramongate, Staveley, Crosscrake, Grange, Burton Morewood, St.Thomas’, Tebay, Flookburgh, Dean Barwick and Elleray worked under the skilful leadership of Dominic Peckham and, in the evening, demonstrated to a large and appreciative audience what they had learnt.

In Dominic Peckham the Festival Committee have found a young man who, besides being endowed with prodigious musical talent and energy, also has an astonishing ability to communicate his enthusiasm for singing to children. It was indeed a wonderful concert: the children, dressed 60’s-style, sang from the Beatles’ repertoire, they sang in parts, they explored the importance of rhythm in music, they watched, and responded to, their conductor, and – they obviously enjoyed it! Mary Wakefield would have approved: these young children were learning more about music and, even more importantly, were were experiencing some of the joy that comes from making music."

  • iSing Choral Day at Bishopsgate School, Surrey

“Bishopsgate School Pupils set aside all lessons for a whole day to day part in a national choral workshop tour led by iSing director, Dominic Peckham. With the freedom of a whole day given over to rehearsals and performance, the children were inspired and challenged by Dominic who introduced to unprepared repertoire of rousing African Melodies, Traditional Folk arrangements, Gospel songs and Beatles classics. The children responded superbly throughout the rigorous rehearsal schedule to produce an unforgettable performance in front of parents and invited guests.

In the concert, the children also demonstrated what they had learned about vocal technique during the lecture sessions. The songs featured soloists, 3-part harmonies and natural percussion effects and brought out the very best in the pupils from the Year 4 to Year 7 age range. It also brought together seasoned singers from the schools own Chapel Choir and Royal Choir with pupils who wouldn’t normally consider themselves as vocalists. The standard of what was taught and memorised in a single day was a testament to energy and high expectations of the iSing director."

  • iSing students sing their hearts out

"HUNDREDS of youngsters from schools across Hampshire hit the right notes as they swapped the classroom for the music studio. More than 200 pupils descended on Thornden School in Chandler’s Ford, to fine-tune their voices at a special singing workshop.

Home-grown musician Dominic Peckham returned to his roots and spent the day coaching the budding stars as part of his national choral workshop, iSing.

Students sung their hearts out, singing from a vast repertoire including The Beatles, Stevie Wonder and African tribal songs.

Dominic said: 'My workshops focus on the importance of encouraging inclusive singing in schools and on promoting the enjoyment of music and social-interaction which result from such music-making.'"
